Deer are now more plentiful than they were in 1492, and the #1 cause of deer mortality is getting hit by cars.
Simply put, in order to get deer populations right, we need more predation. We need to kill larger quantities of deer in more areas. Buck numbers are already depleted, so that means does.
Here in the South, we don’t see bucks fighting each other anymore-they don’t need to. Does so outnumber the bucks that there IS no competition-it’s all a buck can do to just breed the does around him. We NEED to cull does.
It’s not everywhere, but it’s in more places than ever before and it needs to be addressed.
