Tips and advice: Buy a bike - Western Europe is small and most places are pro cycling - just stick to the country roads obviously. You can take your bike on the trains in many countries too. There are mountain huts in the Pyrenees that are free in the winter and basically
unoccupied. In Scotland and other parts of the
UK there are free bothies. You can camp anywhere in Sweden, Norway overnight as long as you don't piss the local farmers off
Public transport is your friend in Europe. There are cheap options available For example a bus journey from London to Paris can be had for £10 round trip.
There are hundreds of options on where to go - you won't be bored and as a yankee you will not run any risk of being unwelcome.
