No tree grows like that. It's a complicated pruning trick, and takes some pretty serious thought to keep up.
The flat ones, trussed against a wall, are similar. Unhealthy trees forced into such unnatural shapes they can't support their own fruit. Even a bonsai is better than these home despot monstrosities.
