personally, for carp, i cant recommend an 8 weight bad ass glass enough. it's very accurate, the slower line speed gives a delicate presentation, it roll casts nicely, but still has enough ass in it for an 80 foot cast. the glass is also great once the fish it hooked, it has more spring in it so you can put more pressure without locking out the rod, there's more cushion for head shakes so hooks are less likely to pop, and you can get away with lighter tippet for the same reason. it's also a great rod for steelhead. the only downside is it's a comparatively heavy rod.
