There have been twice as many violent encounters resulting in serious injuries in that same time frame. 3 fatalities in the 1 national forest in the last 4yrs. So, it is a significant risk that you keep trying to handwave away with cognitive dissonance...and the risk is only going to rise as the population of griz keeps growing and more people are in the backcountry and shoulder areas.
