I allow the clay to become leather hard then drill out the bowl & stem with hand held drill bits. I then carve out the pipe using fishing line and a variety of "tools" made from paper clips, nails, screws, parts scavenged from a retractable ball point pen, kitchen utensils etc. I usually work on 4 or 5 at a time because it takes just slightly more time to make 5 than it does to do only 1.
