You then have the same option along the Oregon coast. Both states (NorCal and Oregon) have very beautiful and underrated coastal zones, you will see a lot of epic redwoods and mountains. However, this drive is not for the faint of heart, there are sketchy mountains and cliffs involved. But it is way more scenic than the big flat suburbs of Sacramento and Redding that you would pass on the 5.
