Knives are a pretty common go to for cutting needs but I've recently been looking into a small hand axe for primary cutting.
For the most part the two main disadvantages I can think of are not having a true point to it and the possibility of the head coming loose in the field.
Other than that I think it may be able to provide more utility than it would remove.
