I have an army corpsman pack and i really hate the zippers that go all the way down to the bottom of the bag like because i have trouble getting to them later but thats just my opinion.

I also own the USMC ilbe 2nd gen rucksack as well as the assault pack, cant beat the combo for $100.

I bought an ILBE pack. It's 8 lbs, but it's a pretty cool pack. I think I might replace it with something lighter, but it was a cheap way to get something that could take me /out/. I'm considering buying APECS gear as well for a membrane shell.

Any reason for me as a new camper/backpacker not to get one of these USMC ILBEs? A lot of people seem to be against milsurp for some reason, but it looks like the biggest bang for my buck, and would allow me to spend more money elsewhere.

The cheapest you could get in would be a surplus USMC ILBE, it is made by arcterx and can be found on ebay for around $70 us.

It is a bit heavy but built to last and probably the best deal out there. You can lighten it up with a little creativity.

Currently I'm looking at the ILBE. I've done a lot of research, and it seems like a good deal for the money. There are a few things I'm worried about though.
First off is the weight. The pack itself weighs 7 or 8 lbs empty. While this is fairly inconvenient, I would be willing to put up with it for an inexpensive and durable pack. My main concern is about how well the pack will fit someone as tall as I am.
Is the pack adjustable for height? Will the weight be a significant issue? Are there any alternative packs in this price range? (50-100$) Are there any problems I'm not thinking of? Thanks for the help.
