10 years ago, I grew 50-75 tomato plants in the ground and never once did I encounter a tomato hornworm (the big green caterpillars). Now, I am caring for a tomato plant in a container and I noticed these tiny green caterpillars appearing on the upper foliage and have made some holes in the leaves. Does anyone know what kind of caterpillars these are?
Also, my backyard has several trees and dead twigs which the birds have been coming for in droves and are picking the twigs and possibly some grubs in a section of bad grass and weeds. Is there any way I can get the birds to notice these caterpillars so they come to my tomato plant and eat them? I don't think birds mess with green tomatoes so I'm guessing I'd be safe until they turn red, right? What is the best way to get rid of these caterpillars? If the birds indeed eat them, I'd like to feed the caterpillars to them somehow rather than just step on them...
