>>584786>watch Jimmy the bird leave us>for the entire trip Jimmy had been an indicator of our luck>every time he left, without fail, something bad would happen>and he just left us>finish filtering water and head back to site>we are a ways away from the lake collecting dead wood for a fire>we hear the howls again, they couldn't have been more than a quarter of a mile away>nope the fuck back to the campsite and start the fire that will keep us warm at night>try to go to sleep while listening to nearby wolf howls>have bearspray close by>go to sleep, but wake up when it starts to rain>to my surprise, our crappy shelter was rainproof>start trying to sleep again>hear something come out of the water near the campsite>it is huge, definitely not a wolf>I am either 20 feet away from a curious thousand pound bear or a moose who thinks our shelter looks tastyPic related
>hear it walking around>the thoughts go through my head>those tracks near the moose tracks weren't dog tracks>it was 11:00 at night and dusk was just about to come, prime time for bear scavenging>a jogger was recently mauled in the same area>we are dozens of miles away from the closest town>I stayed frozen in fear with bearspray in my reach until I was sure it had gone away>next morning, decide not to tell joe about it. I wake up to him tending the fire>he mentions the thing waking around campOn the way out we saw moose tracks heading out of the lake, but you could only see them in the lake where the rain hadn't washed them away. We both decided to leave the lake asap, and saw even more dead minnows as we left our campsite.
Later I find out that the biggest wolves ever recorded were found in the same area. Guess where I'm going wolf hunting next April.
