ideally your camp setup in bear country looks like this 100yd triangle with your cook area and food stash both downwind from your sleep site.
a critter following the scent doesn't stumble onto your sleeping ass and no one gets embarrassed.

This is a good setup.
Kills or animal remains should be left a minimum of 1/2 mile from your camp, designated trails, or other people's camps unless they made disparaging remarks about your looks.

The prevailing wind direction is important. Animals will follow the smell, don't make it so that they follow the smell through your campsite on the way to the cooking site etc.
