For me the most important uses of a smartphone are:
>instant messangers I only needed the instant factor with people who lived nearby and were open for instant meetings - which is necessary for regular friendships desu - but these people would always call me if I hadn't answered them after 10-15 minutes on whatsapp if they wanted to meet up (or rather call me directly and if I didn't answer they wrote me on whatsapp to be more precise). Now due to Corona they (students) left and went to their home countries but either way I agree with
>>1869316. Usually people don't expect answers in 24h, so a whatsapp can be used like an email account, you rarely need it every minute. Unless you are a student at college with a party every minute most people don't tend to be very flexible.
>mapsYou can have dedicated gps devices, print google maps/osm or buy a map. For me these digital maps are great and the most important factor that go against a dumbphone like
>>1869321. I use them very often and they can save a lot of time.
>internet browserPeople use it primarily to distract themselves - they cannot have more than 2 seconds where they do nothing - they need constant stimulation. It's very useful for planning: Either what are the opening times of the supermarket/museum/shop or: the train is not coming, what is the quickest way with public transport to go home fast? That is not often the case in my experience and especially in the later case they don't give you advantages.
>multitoolThe camera is very useful, especially in the combination with the instant messaging.
Other tools are rarely needed (I have a bubble level app and never needed it since I always had a proper bubble level in such situations).
