I see no one has mentioned this yet but it is something I'm doing as part of what can be called my efforts to improve my situation and it is somewhat /out/ related. For those who are looking for a way to either break out of your NEET or wageslave rut without requiring any fancy training or credentials while still being able to support yourself or cover most of your living expenses without any strong obligations you can try signing up at WorkAway or HelpX.
The basic gist is there are hosts that offer accommodation and food in exchange for 4-5 hours of your time 5 days a week to work on whatever they need help with. There are literally thousands of such offerings available all around the world, and many of them are on farms where you'll be doing manual labour of some kind, which can be good to increase your health and stamina if you have been a desk jockey like myself most your life. Many provide you the opportunity to learn skills which can be useful down the line.
They usually don't provide financial compensation for your time, but you should have enough free time to earn some cash on the side if you need, but since you don't have to pay rent or food you need considerably less money to get by so if you have savings or a means to make money on the side you should be set. I have even seen feedback comments where some of the past volunteers were hired by the hosts for a few months.
Since it only takes about 20-25 hours of your time a week(this varies between hosts and can be a bit more or less) you also will have plenty of time to pursue your own interests, or just to get away from the soul destroying overcrowded urban shitholes and find the peace and quiet to reconnect with yourself and nature without all those "civilized" distractions.
The downside is you have to pay a sign-up fee to be able to contact the hosts but at $42 per year for WorkAway, the more expensive(and larger) network, you aren't exactly breaking the bank here.
