I'm in southwestern Ontario so farmland is pretty expensive overall but I think I can get 5-10 acres for around $50,000. I could live farther away and get land much cheaper but I'd rather stay close to friends/family until I know what I'm doing. I actually have enough saved up that I can probably buy some land and put up a very small home, but I don't know how to afford the upkeep costs yet. Even with solar, well water and a compost toilet, it'll still probably end up costing me a few hundred a month to live.
