I've used Stihl and own 2 Echos.
Personally, I feel both perform the same.
I've always been under the impresson of stick with a name brand and buy whichever of those brands has the most readily available parts closest to where you live.
I have equal access to both and picked Echo because of the 5yr warranty.
Decide what all you plan to cut and buy based on size.
Also, invest in a chain sharpener. Either the electric grinder wheel kit or hand files. Your saw is only as good as the blade is sharp.
