What you see in the previous picture is an offshoot at the base of one of the cocoa plants in the pot. It has lighter colored leaves, perhaps the result of poor nutrition?
This is the plant I put into the soil nearby. Something that occurs to me is that this one shows much less tearing even though it is exposed to the wind. I'm beginning to believe that the browning is exacerbated by the bugs draining the plants.
