To put it bluntly, /out/ in Texas is reserved for those with at least 2/3 of the following:
• Taste, as the biomes appeal aesthetically only to the most discerning of outdoors enjoyers. If you need giant mountains or Instagram friendly views you will be filtered. If you're interested in rare species and microclimates you will be at home.
• Connections, as you need to have connections to access many of the most scenic places. It's not like California where any prole with an Android, Google Maps and Nissan Altima can go shit up the outdoors.
• DYOR, because careful study and research filters most from accessing anything beyond the surface level.
Most people fail all of these, so Texas has a bad reputation for /out/. This is a good thing, because it keeps everything beyond the most popular sites (Enchanted Rock, Guadalupe Peak, Blue Hole etc etc) empty 99% of the time. Pic related.
