Also you can look into getting an old native species to keep those going somewhat because most wild red mulberry in NA has hybridized with white mulberry to varying degrees and true red mulberry us rather rare most places now. That said, willows are beautiful trees in their own right and would be a great pick for there. Both are very resistant to heavy trimming if you want to keep them small.
