We were on a very good district and our fuel's planner was amazing. We had every opportunity to go out on roll and if you wanted to open a task book they would facilitate that.
My typical day was
>PT>Do PM checks>Get marching orders>Drive out and do something on district>Come back>Sit around for another 3 hours on extension>Go home>RepeatAnd that's pretty much your life once fire season really gets going, the only thing that breaks it up is popping a fire on district or going on roll. And the occasional office day. It is ridiculously chill days punctuated by periods of some of the hardest work you will probably ever do.
