Okay, bug out bags do have their uses. I keep one, I live near Mt. St. Helen, within 50 miles, its near tradition to keep something like that in your car or with you (also with important documents in it). But the BoB also has different uses, spontaneous hike? Have a bad day a work and just feel like going? grab it, it's not only for "hurr durr zombiezdzz."
BoB's can be very useful / convenient, if you think about it as a something you take with you in emergencies (most people near me have some sort of waterproof sleeve/folder with their lives paper trail in it) and also something to just use when you don't have time to commit to preparing properly.
