Anyhow I use a 20 gauge (Benelli Nova) or a .38 Special (M92 Rossi) for grouse and rabbit. Personally I found the .22LR and the .410 too light as if you have a less than ideal shot placement you end up wounding the animal and it fucks off into the brush.

On another note, rounds like .22 Magnum or .223 can really destroy a lot of meat on an animal so avoid polymer tipped ammo and aim for the head.
