Carve off the inner wood just like removing the core from a sliced apple but stop near the bottom. Carve notches on the side for airflow and wrap it all back together real tight. If you're making it at home you could drill it instead of splitting and caving.
It's like a Swedish torch but also like a rocket stove. Small enough to carry but fuel efficient enough to cook a full meal and boil lots of water with.
