How waterproof does this make your clothing/tent/sleeping bag/whatever? Pretty waterproof. Here you can see water has beaded on the cotton canvas where wax was applied, without any of it absorbing. Where only silicone was applied, the canvas is damp, having absorbed some water, but the water didn't go through the fabric. Applying just silicone spray to something will keep you dry if you get caught in the rain, but if you stay outside in a heavy downpour, eventually your 'waterproof' clothing will leak and you'll get damp. With both silicone and wax, you can be out in shitty weather pretty much all day and stay warm and dry. It won't prevent you from getting wet if you're submerged in water, ie you sleep in a puddle, but it'll delay the water getting through your clothing to your skin for quite a while.
