The only thing you miss out on by not camping camping is your range /out/. If you're not camping you're probably never getting further out from a road than 10 miles.. And if you're not thru hiking probably never more than 40. Not having to turn around means you can get twice as far with your supplies, that is the very meaning of thru hiking "to resupply and continue through". If you're into solitude what that really means there's dramatically less people and usually better nature.
