Like another anon mentioned above, lures are very unnatural so a fish will spit it out almost immediately. Where as a single hooked soft plastic feels more "natural" so they'll basically swallow it if they get the chance...
It's not the hooks that are ruining fishing. Direct your anger towards the bucketheads.
