>>598187Well first of all I'm a block mason, so Im doing the building myself.
I bought some undeveloped land in AK. Won't say where, as it's basically my little secret and I want it to stay that way, but the first step is building a timber kiln for drying lumber, with a sawmill for cutting lumber to size. This cuts costs greatly. I also have been toying with my own recipe for block, so I dont have to buy those either, but thats a work in progress. Building a palisade wall keeps wildlife off of the job site, and frees up lots of dirt for backfill. Concrete is easy enough to come by, so no needs there. The main hurdle for me was getring materials on site, because this is 20 miles into the wilderness on a lake, and I don't know how to fly. I'm glad I kept the truck, just saying. Lots of trips.
So, right now I have the kiln, mill, and the perimeter wall, with most of the space for foundations dug. I settled on 3 medium sized buildings and a septic system. I also have to build a windmill, which seems like a task. That comes last.
Like I said, this is where Im setrling with my family so I'm not going into too much detail. You can find how-to articles for almost anything online, just study study study. Technical experience comes by doing.
