Pickerel, the view from my *city* apartment in 2019. That fire burned almost 2 million acres and spread at a rate of 40k acres per hour, and was one of a dozen gigantic fires going in the area. Literally over 1/3 of the ACT burned in 2 months that summer. This particular fire was started by an army helicopter that was on patrol to survey where nearby bushfires were spreading, and they landed and the heat of the landing lights ignited a blade of grass and the whole crew almost died because of how fast it spread. The chopper was badly damaged. Hundreds of millions of animals died in just that one fire and one of the Coulson 747 watertankers from the US crashed killing all crew members while dousing it.
If you live in a place that's basically designed to burn you don't even fucking stare at the grass too long in a heatwave, nevermind being a pricky prick who want to have an actual fire on downlow. Fuck those people imho.
