first time here on /hgm/. How can I tell when its time to pull my onion out of the ground? I'm a little confused by google; it says to squeeze the plant about 3" above the soil and it'll be soft, the plant isn't getting much bigger but its definitely not soft.
Garden pics from this morning:
Lettuce, 2 melons, 2 tomatos, sunflower, peas (I think are dead now, i ate a few pods now both plants are yellow and wilting), onion, garlic, chives, mysterious broad leaf plant, 2 corns, jalapeno, cayenne, and habanero.
My green bean plants would sprout, something would eat the leaves, then the stem would shrivel and die. I haven't seen any caterpillars, but someone on nextdoor said the thing eating the broad leaf is probably a grasshopper if no caterpillars are visible.
