I like walking my horse down to the mountain lake that is 900 feet from my house. Sometimes I ride him along the forest service roads in the wildlife sanctuary that borders my property in Appalachia.
It would be less effort to sit inside my house but I really enjoy being outside. Sometimes I am bitten by a mosquito or other bug, sometimes I get caught in the rain. Sometimes I intentionally go outside during a rainstorm and shower in the rain water that falls off of my roof onto my porch steps. I do not have to worry about a neighbor seeing me take a shower in the cold rain storm because I live on 10 acres surrounded by national forest next to a 200 acre wildlife sanctuary.
Life my be easier in the vibrant, diversified city but I enjoy building fires in my Fisher Grandpa Bear wood stove.
I enjoy showering outside during thunderstorms, taking my horse to the lake, fires in my woodstove.
Perhaps less effort is required to live in areas outside of Appalachia but life is in the effort, in the struggle.
