I've only gotten them earlier this year but I already love my all terrain boots. Don't feel like they restrain the rolling movement of my feet at all (unlike my clunky foot cast tier safety boots at work), and they offer seemingly vital stabilization and support to the ankles. Used to hike in more regular type sports trail running kinda shoes, and relatively quickly developed ankle pains, also having to do so much for ankle support exhausted my leg muscles very soon. Granted I've only done some shorter hikes so far to break them in but didn't feel nearly as strained in the legs as I would've previously after the same distance, and I'm absolutely thrilled to take them Austria this summer.
As a suggestion for you OP, don't try to decide only between full blown bear kicking alpine boots and those puny trail shoes, there are a lot of medium duty but still light and relatively flexible all terrain boots on the market. Go to a store and try some on, if your boots have simply been too clunky and heavy you should already feel a difference just walking around the store.
