Picking locks has proven helpful to me on more than one occasion while hiking/camping, for instance while in the Adirondacks my friend decided it was a perfect idea to unpack a huge 6 person tent and set it up while it was pouring rain. She then proceeded to get frustrated and throw everything in the mud (and went into our smaller tent to check tinder). Having no idea how to set it up or really put the stuff back in the carry bag (it was her tent) and being really lazy, I ended up just picking the padlock to a private restroom nearby, dragged everything in there, and replaced it with my own lock. We could also charge/store our electronics inside, it was pretty convenient.
