I needed a challenge to keep me busy this Winter, so I'm attempting to grow papaya in pots. Supposedly, papaya can begin yielding within just nine to eleven months (jesus fuck), and do well in container culture. Starting with 18 fresh seeds, I first removed the sarcotesta. According to some articles, the sarcotesta contains a germination inhibitor. I potted up the seeds and put them on bottom heat held at ~85 F/29.5 C.
Seedling emergence began on day 10. Of the 18 seeds, 15 germinated.
