Many of them get dogs or cats because they need a pseudo child or status symbol or maybe they delude themselves into thinking the stupid animal loves them and is their best friend. Which is laughable because it's a fucking dog.
Pet ownership goes up, pet spending goes up even more. Soon there will be 100 million dogs in America, the vast majority are obviously not working dogs. Modern pet culture is simply sick, they think of their animal as a human, they become too attached emotionally, they abuse the ADA to take their animal every where.
They stamp their feet at any sign of killing cats or dogs because that would be inhumane! Meanwhile most of them are eating meat products every day. They don't care about animals, hell cats are by far the largest anthropogenic cause of bird population decline and extinctions. They don't care about animals they care about the special animals they've been culturally indoctrinated into caring about. The Dog. The Cat.
