My grandpa used to take me fishing (for catfish, mostly) all the time when I was growing up, now I want to take my son fishing. Problem is I haven't fished in well over a decade, and have no gear to speak of (most of the tackle was his and it's gone, sadly). My question is, with approximately a $60 budget (per set) what's the ideal beginner rod and reel to get into freshwater fishing? Mostly from a pier but also on the bank of some of our local lakes and mostly for catfish. I remember my grandpa used a very old Shakespeare rod, not sure about the reel.
