So every once in a while i will catch a bass and it will be hooked in the lower, inner part of the mouth, where the gills meet at the bottom.
When i remove the hook, the fish usually starts bleeding a lot, to the point they will sometimes get a solid red stripe of blood running down their side as i hold them
Is this a survivable thing or will they most likely die?
I usually assume they will die and finish the job and take them home to eat, even if they are undersized. On Friday i happened to hook a good sized, healthy bass like this and i was very disappointed that i had to kill and eat it.
What do you guys do in this situation?
