>>1902477Still fucking around with a house/cabin design and struggling with using space efficiently. How do people learn to build stuff with efficient use of space, bros? The cabins I see have these amazing layouts for use of space. Only thing I can figure is that these people build first then figure out use of space, but I'd like to plan ahead for once as I normally do the opposite and run into space issues.
I'm figuring that I should make a small cabin to live in first as it would be easiest, then build a house on the same property when I can build something like that. The way I see it is that I figure I'll be able to either buy a decent amount of land OR buy/build/modify a good house when I have the money, choose one (I want the land). I'm willing to do a lot of my own work, as much as possible. Anything that building code won't allow me to do (or I just don't have the skills for) I'll get someone to do, but this wouldn't be my first time doing plumbing, woodworking, etc. I have most of the tools for this and could rent others I don't have.
I think I'll build in the style of Modern Self Reliance with overlapped wood slabs and a modern frame. It's a good compromise between nice looking and energy ($) efficient (able to be insulated). Also, this is definitely a plan for a time where I have more money and I know I'll have a steady job, so who knows when I'll be able to do this. It's not right now, that's for sure.
I'm also actually pretty surprised at how hard it is to fit everything in.
>bed>desk>shelves (for books)>kitchen: microwave, electric burner, sink, refrigerator, counter>bathroom: water heater, toilet, sink, shower>stairs (could use ladder instead)>breaker box (probably going in the kitchen; IIRC I've seen cabins like that)>other shit: knowing I'll need to use well water, etc.
