Most missing person cases are just poorly documented events. A serious investigator would disregard paranormal possibilities in order to focus on more realistic explanations. He does the exact opposite. To him, it's always too "simple" or "unlikely" that someone just died innawoods or ran away from shitty relatives. It always has to be something more mysterious. Some sort of a hidden pattern that only him and his schizoid followers seem to understand.
But hey, at the end of the day if that prevents him from offing himself because his son killed committed suicide, why the hell not. We all need a hobby.
