I live on a desert mountain (been here 2 years). Not a single tree, bush, or even rock on my land, all just dry grass and dirt, so I've been looking into terraforming and general land management.
I'm trying a xeriscape this year. I planted a few trees (3 ginkos, 8 unknowns, and 2 oaks) last year. Only the 3 ginkos and the 3 unknowns survived.
I'm now strapped for cash (divorced recently) but want to continue to improve the land cheaply. I make trips to the city once a month and take cuttings from plants at public facilities (public parks, bus stations, etc). I make sure to only take small cuttings so I don't damage the plants or the landscape.
