Truthfully, I know guys that have them and love them; so it's kind of a personal preference thing. I'd suggest going to a retail store and playing with one.
Automotive GPS's and Trail/Offroad GPS's are pretty different animals, set up for very different applications. However, you can install CityNavigator onto the trail models and get the same functionality in a vehicle.
