Hey /out/, creating this thread about my experience that might help somebody out in the future who gets in the same situation and maybe also answer anyone’s questions, and maybe also make a general wilderness medicine thread. So about a week ago I was walking some friends to their cars in my driveway after a get together. Unfortunately in the dark where I walked by there was a curled up baby rattlesnake and it decided to bite me on the ankle as I went by. It looked like a western diamondback but I was more worried about getting a ride to a hospital than getting a full id. The hospital was about 20 minutes away and during that I tried to what all the books say and keep calm, but I still think I had adrenaline flowing through me because of how I felt. I believe a mixture of the venom and that adrenaline made me feel the sensation of an appendage falling asleep(pins and needles ) and also making my lips tingle and making me feel very hot. But honestly in that time the pain wasn’t too bad, where it bit me on the foot just felt like I had sprained the ankle, so I could walk on it but not without pain. So anyway I got to the hospital and they pretty much immediately got me on anti-venom and the pins and needles were gone in about 10 minutes. They kept me in the Hospital for a few days after that to watch the swelling of my foot and look for any discoloration. My foot stayed swollen and tender for about a day, then the pain and swelling went down. It’s been about a week and I’m pretty much back to normal. I thought I’d just make this to tell my experience to other people so you might know what to expect if you are unlucky enough to get bitten by a venomous snake. However this was still only a very short exposure to the venom before getting anti-venom so I can’t really speak for what would happen if it had taken longer to get treatment. Anyway that’s my experience, feel free to ask any questions and maybe make this a general wilderness medicine thread.
