Kiwifag here, used to trap brushtail possums about five years ago when I was in highschool. They're an invasive species here - eat bird's eggs, young tress etc. I volunteered to clear and re-set the kill traps in a nearby area the local council was trying to establish as a native wildlife sanctuary. Used to go up there three or four times a week, bring out the dead possums and sell them to a guy. He'd then pluck the fur, blend it with merino wool and sell it on to sweeter makers who peddle that sort of stuff to Jap tourists. The money I got from that paid for all my underage drinking.
