Also snakeheads seem pretty smart. If they see you, they won’t bite. If they hit the bait once and you don’t hook them, they won’t go for it the rest of the day. If you miss one, just move to the next spot. Only time I ever got snakeheads to hit a bait more than once is when they’re defending their fry.

There is a pond by my house loaded with plecos, I want to go over there with one of those frog spears. A few places I have seen some of those orange cichlids, look like midas cichlids, but never caught one. And then anon brought me to this pond with these jaguar cichlids that are feisty.

I hear stories about oscars but have never seen one. From reading online, it sounds like they used to be all over in Broward and Dade and then a cold front came through one winter and the oscars couldn’t handle it but the mayans made it and took over.

It’s a mayan cichlid. Supposedly a few years back we had a real cold winter that killed off most of the oscars and the Mayans do a little better in the cold temps and they took over Broward & Palm Beach. Those guys are like big bluegill but fight way harder.

There’s also these jaguar cichlids me and another anon found in a little pond.

In urban/suburban areas, my best fishing spots are industrial and commercial parks and certain subdivisions. Most of them have “No Fishing” signs so best bet is to go on a Sunday morning or afternoon with one rod, cast around for a little bit and see if anybody messes with you.

Some places have that asshole who will call the cops, but worst that happens is they tell you to leave. Most of them are cool as long as you don’t go full nigger with a lawn chair and 4 catfish rods and start gutting fish in the parking lot.

The only two nonnatives that I know of that are ok would be peacocks (which were introduced to help kill all those damn cichlids like jaguars) and grass carp for vegetation control.

Not sure. Never caught one, but lots of Mayans in the Everglades. If anything, the oscars probably would've done worse inland since it gets colder the further you get from the ocean. And then there were these jaguar cichlids that anon found in the little pond in Weston. I have seen some other ones too, I think lots of convicts? but never caught them because they are smaller and one time I saw bright orange ones that I think were Midas cichlids.

Either way the Mayans are more fun to catch than bluegill so I don't really mind.
