I keep most of my gear and supplies in the back of the cab since it is weather/dust proof and lockable. I've considered building a sleeping platform with drawers before but having the bed free for bringing my kayak and/or bike seemed worth forgoing a bit more sleeping comfort.
On an unrelated note do either of you have any advice for weather sealing the area around the tailgate. Every trail I've taken this summer has left the bed coated in dust and I hate having to cover everything in a tarp everytime I break camp.
