In fact, Cadmium itself is a waste product in the production of zinc.
Also if we dive deeper into chemistry:
cadmium telluride is an extremly stable salt and a lot less toxic than pure cadmium.
If the solar modules are recycled properly after their 40+ years of use, like we do it in Germany, there is literally no contamination.
