>Me, 19>Sick of not getting /out/, but have subpar gear>Take a day pack, with sleeping bag and tarp lashed to it>Hike in to an uninhabited stretch of river floodplain>Because I don't know shit about knots, build a stick lean-to frame and drape the tarp over it>because I don't have a pad, peel cottonwood bark from a dead tree and lay it under the tarp>Struggle to get a fire going with damp cottonwood firewood>I brought fucking potatoes, carrots, and sausage for food, so I cook them in the coals (wasn't bad actually)>Go to bed exhausted from just setting up camp and making food>Tarp is too short to cover my whole body, spend the night curled up in a ball>Next morning, make juniper berry tea by dropping fire-heated rocks into a ceramic mug I brought (tasted like tar, do not recommend)>Hike back to my carIt was my first real trip with my own gear by myself. Other trips have since been better now that I know how to set up a tarp, have a 65L pack, and know what food to bring.
