Retriever mix, hands down. So eager to please the master. Also any herding dogs, as they are good at learning verbal cues and are largely regarded as the more intelligent breeds. Aussies, border collies, full corgi is okay but they're kind of defiant and have funny personalities, all labradors, golden retrievers, or Brittany spaniels. Grew up with several springer spaniels, and those are really loyal, great when trained, though I never did the training with them. My dog is pretty well trained for outdoor adventuring, even after just obedience training and some tricks learned at home.
I have a corgi x golden retriever (just a mutt). Super loyal, intelligent, small enough to carry and for being in the tent with me and not puncture the floor, double coat for quick-dry. Only con is the long hair due to burrs and ticks. Otherwise he's a 9/10 dog for /out/ing.
Has plenty of endurance when he uses it, otherwise is content to chill and sniff around a small area. Doesn't go far (100ft or so) from me when I'm at camp, and stays on-leash while hiking. At 21lbs he can carry enough food for himself for 3 days, poop bags, and some of his water. I do have a filter though and he drinks the filtered water mostly. The packed water is usually just from car to first fill-up, and I carry most of it anyway. He's almost 2yrs young and listens well. Glued to my hip in the house too.
