>>1990831If you got them in in time they should be growing some green out of their top but as it gets to freezing protecting them with leaves is the right call. In spring when you stop getting freezes make sure you peel the leaves off if it they thick and matted or the garlic sprouts won't be able to grow up through them and they will curl under the leaves and die. I planted garlic for the first time two years ago, got 100 heads in a tiny ass bed doing exactly what you did. Planted 300 cloves this fall in the same amount of space from the garlic I grew and havent had to buy garlic since.
