Made a thread about this the other day, which got shit on just like yours. There ended up being ~200 replies, most of which were arguing.
Anyhow, this is my kit, has enough to survive for three days. I could probably get by with less, but you never know what could happen. Where I live, the threat would be a massive quake, which is why there's gloves and a prybar, in case I have to deal with rubble.
When going camping I bring this bag along with me. It is around 25ibs, most of which is my retardedly large tent. But its nice to have 3 people worth of room all to myself, and of course, if I need to share there's all that space.
I go out pretty frequently and change up my gear just a bit based on what I use/don't use. So far the Caribbeanars and the small saw are not that useful and may be ditched. Also, my bag is not as water resistant as I thought, and direct rain for a few minutes got some of my first aid wet, so it all got put into a watertight box recently. I have this idea, of buying a few good size water tight boxes, then just sticking everything into 3-4 of those, and packing them.
