You'd have to get some gear for this (suitable backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping mat etc). Given that you have a job, and if you enjoyed the former activities, you may want to put some money into this, but don't overspend, if possible get second hand equipment and stay on the cheap side until you know exactly what equipment you need (depends on the weather you intend to hike in, the type of terrain, budget and personal preferences).
After doing some of these you're pretty much there.
Last thing, if you have some friends that are into the outdoor, tagging along and learning from them will jump-start you and help you a long way. Look for collage societies or groups that you can join, if you're the kind of guy that enjoys it.
